We Ain’t So Free!

Remarkably, there is still a lot of bad talk over the gay marriage issue in the U.S. Unfortunately, many Christian Americans are still trying to tie the knot between Church and State, but of course that isn’t how the country runs. We are a country who loves freedom…kind of. “Land of the Free” only applies to those who hold power, who are building fences to keep others out or put away. We the People are not so good at giving freedom for the people, are we? We say you’re not welcome here. And we say you’re not allowed to get married. What is this beginning to sound like to you?

Disapproving of same-sex marriage just because it conflicts with your religion—but we know it’s what you believe—doesn’t mean it’s OK to be prejudice. Discrimination is not what Christ has called us to do. He has called us to love and to teach. Hating and building legislative walls aren’t helping anything. Let them get married—it’s not like it is going to change anything for you. I mean, people will hate you less for not forbidding them to live their own lives…and that might actually open up doors for your ministry. 🙂

“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.” –Leviticus 19:18.
